Edinburgh Airport Noise Insulation Scheme

Edinburgh Airport Noise Insulation Scheme provides assistance with double glazing and loft insulation costs for your property if you live within a specified area determined by Noise Contour Mapping commissioned by Edinburgh Airport.

Edinburgh Airport Noise Insulation Scheme provides assistance with double glazing costs for your property if you live within the 60dB LAeq Daytime or 57dB Nighttime  and greater noise contours (LAeq summertime noise contour mapping) of Edinburgh Airport.

Insulation contour mapping will be updated biannually in accordance with the insulation policy detailed in Edinburgh Airports 2024 – 2028 Noise Action Plan. This is available to download here

If you presently have single glazed windows installed, or if you already have double glazed window units installed, we would pay 50% of the cost of new double glazed units, providing you have not received help of this manner in the past. Please use the address finder below to check if  check if your property is within the areas eligible for assistance.



If your property is within the area of the map which would entitle this type of insulation assistance please contact contact the Environmental Noise Manager via  insulation@edinburghairport.com who will arrange a visit to  your property to explain our scheme and how to proceed.  

Only applications made to the Insulation Scheme by the property owner will be assessed for eligibility under the scheme. Applications from property developers and owners of multiple properties are not eligible to apply to the scheme.

Retrospective applications to the scheme will not be accepted.


Noise Insulation Scheme

Households without double glazing in the  noise contours detailed above , who haven't benefited from the scheme before, are entitled to apply for:

  • Free secondary glazing to fit existing windows; or
  • 50% contribution to standard double glazed PVCu replacement windows; or
  • 50% contribution to high specification double glazed PVCu replacement windows, specially designed to reduce noise levels, or a combination of these options.
  • 50% contribution for replacing glass sealed units (glass only keeping existing window frames)
  • The insulations scheme covers 'Habitable' rooms only ie, Living Rooms, Bedrooms, Dining rooms or Dining Kitchens.
  • Applicants who are facing difficulties during the current financial crisis, and who are in receipt of pension credits; may be eligible to receive a higher contribution from Edinburgh Airport. Eligibility for further assistance will be assessed on a case by case basis; and proof of the receipt of benefits by the property owner will be required at the time of application. 

Loft insulation has also been found to help further reduce noise disturbance.  As part of the Noise Insulation Scheme, eligible Properties could also be entitled to ventilation and loft insulation free of charge. For further information please email us on insulation@edinburghairport.com.


  1. Check your eligibility to apply using the above address finder
  2. Contact us to arrange a home visit.
  3. Residents should arrange their own quotes for doubling glazing installers (minimum of 2). This should detail per window and door (external currently glazed doors only).
  4. Houses built since 2009 are not eligible for the scheme
  5. Residents should send the quotes to Edinburgh Airport
  6. Edinburgh Airport write back to the resident with the confirmed contribution the Airport will pay
  7. Residents and airport agree how the airport contribution will be billed. A cheque can be posted to the resident after installation. Installers can invoice the airport directly for the airport contribution agreed.
  8. Residents go ahead and instruct the work to be done and notify the airport of when the new glazing is installed
  9. Airport visit the property to check that the job has been completed
  10. Airport pay their contribution
